Home Sleep Apnea Testing in Waterbury, CT

Tested in your own bed rather than a lab, usually covered by insurance, and read by a sleep physician.

Why This Matters More Than People Think

Sleep apnea is one of the most under-diagnosed conditions there is, and it sits underneath a lot of what people come to us for. It raises blood pressure. It worsens insulin resistance and makes type 2 diabetes harder to control. It lowers testosterone. It drives weight gain and makes weight loss harder — including with medication. And it disrupts the deep sleep your body needs to recover, regulate appetite, and manage stress hormones. Treating everything else while sleep apnea goes unaddressed is working uphill. That’s why we test for it rather
than assuming your sleep is fine.

Signs Worth Testing For

  • Loud snoring, especially if a partner has mentioned it
  • Waking unrefreshed no matter how long you slept
  • Waking with headaches, particularly in the morning
  • A partner noticing you stop breathing or gasp during sleep
  • Daytime sleepiness that doesn’t match the hours you’re getting
  • Difficulty staying awake while driving, at your desk, or in meetings
  • You’ve gained weight and your sleep has worsened alongside it
  • You have high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or low testosterone that isn’t responding as expected to
    treatment

How It Works

Your visit

We assess your symptoms, your history, and whether a home study is the right test for you. In person in Waterbury, or by telehealth anywhere in Connecticut.

The device

We use the WatchPAT, a wrist-worn device you take home. You wear it for one night in your own bed. No lab, no wires, and no stranger watching you sleep.

Interpretation

Your results are read and interpreted by a sleep physician.

Results visit

You come back in and we go through the findings with you: what they show, what it means for the rest of your health, and whether treatment is recommended.

If treatment is needed

We refer you to a sleep specialist to get started on CPAP or another intervention. We don’t manage CPAP here, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than have you find out later.

Insurance and Cost

Home sleep studies are usually covered by insurance, and we accept most major plans including Medicare and HUSKY Health. Worth knowing: if you have HUSKY Health and your study shows moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, that is one of the qualifying conditions under which HUSKY covers Zepbound. And if you have Medicare, sleep apnea is one of the conditions that can open eligibility for GLP-1 coverage through the Medicare Bridge programme at lower BMI thresholds. In other words, getting tested for sleep apnea can change what your plan covers for weight management. We’ll connect those dots for you.

The Connections That Matter

Sleep apnea rarely shows up alone, and the reason we test for it here rather than sending you elsewhere is that we can see the full picture.

Weight

Sleep apnea and weight drive each other in a cycle. Treating one without addressing the other often stalls.

Blood sugar

Sleep apnea worsens insulin resistance and makes diabetes harder to manage. Treating it improves metabolic control.

Testosterone

Sleep apnea suppresses testosterone production. Testosterone therapy without treating the sleep problem behind it is incomplete.

DOT certification

Sleep apnea is one of the most common complications in a DOT physical. We test for it here and help you address it before your next exam

Common Questions

Is the home study as accurate as a lab study?

For diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea, yes — it’s a well-validated method. There are some conditions where a lab study is more appropriate, and if that’s the case we’ll tell you.

Usually, yes. We accept most major plans, including Medicare and HUSKY Health.

You sleep however you normally do. That’s the point — it records a real night rather than a night spent trying to sleep in a lab.

We refer you to a sleep specialist to start treatment, usually CPAP. We don’t manage CPAP ourselves, and being upfront about that is part of how we work.

It’s one of the most useful things a partner can tell you, and yes, it’s worth testing. Not everyone who snores has sleep apnea, but partner-observed snoring with daytime tiredness is one of the strongest predictors.

Yes. Untreated sleep apnea can disqualify you. Testing and treating it before your next exam is considerably easier than dealing with it at the exam.

It’s genuinely possible. Sleep apnea disrupts the hormones that regulate appetite and metabolism. Treating it can be the thing that gets weight loss moving again.

No. You can book directly.
