Wegovy (Semaglutide) in Waterbury, CT

A weekly injection for weight management, prescribed with proper evaluation, covered by insurance where your plan allows, and monitored at every step.

What Wegovy Is

Wegovy is the brand name for semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist given as a weekly injection. It works on the hormonal signals that control appetite and fullness, and it is one of the most effective medications currently available for weight management.

It is FDA-approved for chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with at least one weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.

How It Works

You start at a low dose and increase gradually over several months. This is by design — the gradual increase reduces the side effects that are most common early on, particularly nausea and digestive upset.

It is a weekly injection, self-administered at home after we teach you how. The dose is pre-set in the pen, so there’s nothing to measure or draw up.

Side Effects

The most common are nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach discomfort, particularly during dose increases. For most people these improve with time and slower titration. We’d rather you call us than quit.

There are rarer but more serious risks we’ll discuss with you. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2) rules this medication out.

Rapid weight loss can also cost muscle as well as fat. We discuss protein intake and resistance training from the beginning.

Insurance and Cost

Wegovy requires a prior authorization with most plans. We handle that ourselves — it requires specific documentation, and it’s frequently denied the first time for reasons that are fixable. If it’s denied, we appeal where there’s a case.

Medicare

as of July 2026, Medicare covers Wegovy through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge programme at a $50 monthly copay for eligible patients.

HUSKY Health

Wegovy may be covered for qualifying conditions such as fatty liver disease with stage F2–F3 fibrosis. It is not currently covered for weight loss alone under HUSKY.

We accept most major plans, including Medicare, HUSKY Health, and commercial insurers. We’ll check your benefits and tell you what to expect before you start.

Common Questions

Is Wegovy covered by my insurance?

It depends on your plan. Many commercial plans cover it with a prior authorization. Medicare now covers it through a temporary programme at $50 per month for eligible patients. HUSKY covers it for specific qualifying conditions but not for weight loss alone. We check your benefits before you start.

Obesity is a chronic condition, and for many people weight returns after stopping. Some patients stay on treatment long-term, some reduce to a maintenance dose. It’s a conversation to have as you go.

The Wegovy brand now includes a tablet formulation that is also covered under the Medicare Bridge. We’ll discuss which form suits you.

Side effects are usually manageable with slower titration. If it genuinely doesn’t work for you, there are other options we’ll discuss.

That varies too much between individuals for anyone to promise you a number honestly. What we can tell you is that it’s gradual by design.

Is This Right for You?

Book a consultation. We’ll review your history, run the right labs, and tell you honestly whether this medication is appropriate for you.
